How quickly can you fit my EV charger?

Depending on the results of our initial site survey, straightforward installations can often be scheduled very quickly—sometimes even next-day if parts and booking slots line up perfectly.

However, the timeline can be longer for certain properties. If our survey shows that prior approval or upgrades are required from your local Distribution Network Operator (the company managing your area's electricity grid), the installation will be delayed until they grant permission.

We always handle the survey and necessary checks as fast as possible to minimize your wait time.

Are there any grants available for EV charger installations?

Government-funded EV charging grants are mainly aimed at specific groups, such as eligible landlords, businesses and residents who meet certain criteria.

For most homeowners, the cost of installing a charger is usually paid privately. However, schemes and eligibility criteria can change, so we recommend checking current availability before installation.

Do I need a consumer unit upgrade for an EV charger?

Not always. Many homes already have a suitable electrical installation that can support an EV charger.

However, we will need to check your existing consumer unit, protective devices, earthing arrangements and overall installation condition before fitting a charger.

If improvements are required, we will explain exactly what is needed and why. We will never recommend unnecessary work.

Do I need planning permission to install an EV charger?

For most domestic properties, planning permission is not normally required for a standard EV charger installation.

There can be exceptions, such as listed buildings, properties in conservation areas or certain property types with specific restrictions.

We can advise you if your property has any circumstances that may require additional checks before installation.

Will my electricity supply support an EV charger?

Most modern homes can support EV charging, but every property is different.

Before installation, we assess factors including your incoming supply, consumer unit, earthing arrangements and existing electrical demand.

If there are any concerns, we can advise on the best solution, which may include load management equipment or contacting your electricity network operator.

What’s the difference between a tethered and untethered EV charger?

A tethered charger has a charging cable permanently attached to the unit, making it quick and convenient to plug your vehicle in.

An untethered or socketed charger allows you to use your own charging cable, which can be useful if you change vehicles or prefer a cleaner appearance when not charging.

The best option depends on your preferences, parking arrangements and how you use your vehicle.

Can I still get a smart EV tariff if I don’t buy my charger from my supplier?

Yes, absolutely! You do not need to buy or install a charger through your energy supplier to access their cheap, off-peak smart tariffs (like Intelligent Octopus Go, Eon Next Drive Smart or OVO Charge Anytime).

To get these ultra-low overnight rates, energy companies only require a compatible smart meter and an approved smart charger or a compatible electric vehicle.

As long as we install an approved smart charger (such as a Zappi GLO), or you have a compatible car, you can pair it directly with your provider to unlock their cheapest rates. This gives you the best of both worlds: a high-quality, neat local installation and maximum charging savings.

How long does an EV charger installation take?

A standard EV charger installation is usually completed within half a day.

More complex installations may take longer depending on factors such as cable routes, groundworks, consumer unit upgrades or additional electrical work.

We aim to complete every installation neatly and efficiently, with full testing and commissioning carried out before we leave.

Can I charge my EV using solar panels?

Yes. Many modern EV chargers can work alongside solar PV systems to make use of your excess solar generation.

Chargers such as the myenergi Zappi are designed specifically with solar integration in mind, allowing you to charge your vehicle using renewable energy generated at your home.

The best setup depends on your existing solar system, inverter, battery storage and energy usage, so we can advise on the most suitable solution.

Can an EV charger be wired into my garage supply?

Possibly. It depends on how your garage is supplied and whether the existing electrical installation is suitable for the additional demand of an EV charger.

Many garages have a dedicated supply from the main house consumer unit, and in some cases this can be used to supply an EV charger. However, the cable size, protective devices, earthing arrangements and overall condition of the installation all need to be assessed before installation.

During our survey, we will check your existing setup and advise whether your garage supply is suitable or whether any upgrades or alternative solutions are required.

Can I have an EV charger installed if I don’t have a driveway?

In some situations, yes, but it depends on your property layout and how the charger cable can be routed safely.

Properties without off-street parking can present additional challenges, particularly where a cable would need to cross a public footpath or shared access area. Any installation must be designed with safety and legal requirements in mind.

We can discuss the options available for your property and advise on the most practical solution.

Can you install an EV charger that I have already purchased?

Yes. We are happy to install a charger that you have already purchased, provided it is a suitable product and meets the required safety standards.

We can install a wide range of EV charger makes and models, although we may recommend certain products where we have confidence in the manufacturer support, warranty provision and long-term reliability.

If you have already chosen a charger, contact us with the details and we can advise whether it is suitable for your installation.

What happens to my warranty if you are no longer trading in the future?

Your warranty is fully protected. Every charger we recommend and install—including the myenergi Zappi, Sync Energy, and Simpson & Partners—comes with a direct, independent manufacturer's hardware warranty (usually 3 to 5 years).

Once we complete your installation, this product warranty is registered directly to you and your address. It is a legally binding contract between you and the manufacturer, completely separate from our business.

In the highly unlikely event that we are no longer trading in the future, your warranty remains 100% valid. If a fault ever develops with the unit, the manufacturer is legally obligated to manage the repair or replacement directly with you, exactly as they would if you had bought it from a major national retailer.
